8th Generation Vineyard

Nestled in BC's stunning Okanagan Valley, 8th Generation Vineyard is a family-run winery that blends Old World Heritage with New World Wines to make delicious Okanagan wines. Situated along Highway 97 in the Trout Creek area of Summerland, the winery invites visitors to experience handcrafted Okanagan wines that are the result of meticulous and insightful vineyard practices, and that pay homage to eight generations of family winemaking traditions. Bernd and Stefanie Schales founded the winery in 2003, after leaving their hometown of Dalsheim in Germany, renowned for its wine region of Rheinhessen Village.

They brought with them their family's generations of winemaking and grape growing experience, as well as Bernd's grandfather's winepress. Stefanie, a trained architect and 12th-generation wine grower, manages the business and the family, while Bernd, an 8th-generation winemaker with professional training in viticulture, oenology, and business management from the University of Weinsberg in Germany, oversees the winemaking process. Bernd has refined his wine-growing and winemaking skills at his family's vineyard in Germany, as well as in other wineries in Germany, New Zealand, and South Africa.

The Schales family takes great pride in their ability to impart their knowledge and expertise to their children, teaching them to respect their craft and the land from which they make a living. With each passing year, they look forward to nurturing the 9th Generation of proud and talented wine growers.
