Painted Rock Estate Winery
Types of Wines
Painted Rock Estate Winery, envisioned as a family legacy business by Proprietors John and Trish Skinner, began in 2004 with the purchase of a 56-acre bench on the eastern shore of Skaha Lake in south Penticton.
After 3 years of searching and detailed site analysis, they had found the site that would allow them the opportunity to create terroir driven wines. The unique west sloping bench, surrounded by an amphitheatre of rock, offered long hot summer days in conjunction with ideal air flow and soil structures. It was the perfect combination of elements to realize their vision for an ultra premium Okanagan winery, worthy of the international stage.
The Skinner’s assembled a team of local and international talent to create their planting strategy and later their award-winning wines. The estate is planted with Chardonnay and Syrah, in addition to the five Bordeaux varieties. Their consultant Alain Sutre of Ertus Consulting in Bordeaux oversees the blending and winemaking team each vintage.
Painted Rock is now home to an architecturally distinctive tasting room overlooking the vineyards and Skaha Lake. It is here that John Skinner personally welcomes visitors to taste the results of his family’s shared ambition to make terroir expressive Okanagan wines from their single vineyard site.
